Antique Botanicals
These images originate from a 16th-century herbal by Leonhart Fuchs, created in collaboration with his artists and woodcutter.
In its original form, the illustration was left uncoloured, allowing purchasers to add the hues themselves. Some editions were also issued with plates already hand-coloured by skilled artisans. For these cards I chose to add the colour personally—continuing in the old tradition of bringing these botanical prints to life with a touch of individual artistry.
NOTE: These are printed on handmade paper, the edges are uneven and the card size varies slightly with each but are around 4.25" W x 5.5” H, folded.
Cards come with envelopes in cello bag.
