Tudor & Elizabethan Cards

People of note in the Medieval and Renaissance Eras, by Nancy Nikko

Illustrated Historical Figures from the Tudor, Elizabethan and Renaissance…

Last week I started an illustration project that will ultimately include a large set of illustrated cards to add to my collection. People and places (and things) from historical eras. I’ve started mostly with the people but I have several architectural illustrations done as well (one of them being Blickling Hall, shown on the Art and Letter homepage as the main image).

Going off portraits, since there was no photography to shed light on their likeness before around the 19th c, the ones in the above photo show Elizbeth I, Henry VIII, William Shakespeare and Anne Boleyn, who’s cut off in the upper right corner.

I’m planning to include many others, in fact, it will probably be an ongoing project into the far future as there are always more to do - in addition to personalities, think of all the beautiful castles, chateaus and stately homes. Not to mention gardens and what not.

Louis XIV illustrated greeting card.

Louis XIV, another royal, but there will be non-royals too.

Shakespeare is in there and I’ll be adding more historical figures that are not royal, like he isn’t, but noted in their fields. Maybe botanists, artists and mythical characters as well, as long as they’re from the period.

Anyway, just a little glimpse into what is going on in my art studio right now.
As I finish and get the intial sets up, I’ll also include historical biographies in a section on this site.
